Our founder, Peter Shaw, witnessed less than satisfactory care for a number of his relatives, with rushed visits, continuous new faces and a lack of respect. He decided there must be a better way. That better way starts with who we recruit, namely people who are genuinely caring, empathetic, trustworthy, patient, kind, reliable and hard working and who appreciate and enjoy the company of older people. With these qualities we can train to the highest standards of professional care.
We believe in teams because teams give our clients consistency and continuity of care and our carers the support and team spirit that is so important for a motivated workforce. For each client we will select and introduce a small team of carers who you will come to know as your 'home team'. Our aim is for there always to be a familiar face.
We believe in giving our clients and carers enough time and space to ensure that the services we provide are done well, safely and comfortably, and never rushed. For this reason we set a minimum of one hour for each visit. Our care management system is designed to build in sufficient travel time between each client visit, so there is no need to cut a visit short in order to get to the next one.
Your wider support team might consist of family and friends, your GP, district nurses, a physiotherapist, your cleaner, perhaps a visiting podiatrist, hairdresser or an odd-job person. We recognise the importance of liaising with these services as part of your wider support team.
Recruiting people who are genuinely caring is at the heart of our business. We seek people who are patient, kind, trustworthy, reliable and hard working. If we recruit people with these qualities we can train them to the highest standards of professional homecare.
We create client-centred teams, ensuring continuity of care for our clients and a strong team culture. We never rush our care, spending the right amount of time with each client. Our minimum length of visit is one hour.
We provide personal care, including help with getting up in the morning, going to bed, dressing and undressing, washing, bathing, showering and toileting.
We are also able to help those with restricted mobility. We train all of our home care professionals in moving and positioning techniques, including the use of hoists, electric profiling beds, slide sheets and rotundas.
Our home care professionals help to keep our clients' homes clean and tidy, wiping down surfaces, dusting and vacuum cleaning.
We are also happy to help with laundry, using the washing machine, hanging out clothes and putting them away.
If you have a pet that needs attending to as well we will be happy to help.
We prepare and serve meals, hot drinks and snacks.
We take the time to understand how our clients like their food to be prepared and exactly how they like their tea and coffee.
We all have our preferences and the details are so important.
Following the guidance of our clients' health care professionals we are able to assist our clients in taking their medication, whether that be prompting or, if required, by administering pills, liquids, drops and creams.
All of our Professional Carers are trained in assisting with medication.
Many of our clients welcome support to keep appointments, whether it’s with the hairdresser or hospital outpatients, a regular class or a trip to the shops.
A member of the Home Team will be delighted to accompany you.
Companionship is a very important service that we provide to our clients. Spending time over a cup of tea, perhaps playing a game or helping with small tasks, paying bills or letter writing, are all part of our home care services.
We might also venture out for a meal, the cinema, or simply a stroll.
The Home Team understands the challenges of progressive dementia and we train all of our home care team to support dementia sufferers.
The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) is a brilliant resource for anyone wishing to understand more about dementia and this video is an excellent introduction.
